And there’s something about three blue men and a small army of gifted musicians that attract thousands to an arena to see these men in blue storm through a set of genre-mixing music that can only be described as comedy-introspective-mood rock. The Blue Man Group brought an unusual assortment of unique percussion instruments and their own arena rock clinic to the Bryce Jordan Center Wednesday with the “How to be a Rockstar Tour 2.1.” The band’s popular large concoction of pipes created impressive rhythms and fun poppy drumbeats that warmed up the crowd before the entire band kicked in with chill-inspiring “newer age” rock music.
Tailor-made for a medium-sized theater, the searing talent of the seven-piece rock ensemble and bass drums (the size of baby pools) filled the arenaÂ’s large empty spaces. Without saying a word, the three blue men had the thousands in the audience clapping, waving their fists, and jumping up and down. The most impressive aspect of the hour-and-a-half show was the instrumental skill of everyone on the stage.
